Dr Gachet

2022

Van Gogh immortalised Dr. Gachet - his psychiatrist. My encounters with psychiatrists are too many and too significant to leave unrecorded. My Dr. Gachet is not a portrait of one man. He is a surrogate for everyone on the other side of my diagnosis.

The visual resemblance between the two is minimal. What connects them is the subject and the colour. The beard is a deliberate hide-and-seek act - executed in an intensity wildly extrapolated from Van Gogh's canvas.
